I am a Nava Member. And I am a strong believer in artists being paid appropriately for their work and time.
For major Public works, I will suggest an extra fee to bring on a young artist as an assistant and mentee.
I am not represented by a gallery and don’t have someone managing my workload. This means as an independent full time professional artist. I may take a little time to get back to you. If you don’t hear from me in a week, feel free to send another email to check I got it.
Please look through my work on this site, my CV or instagram @karalinar_art before you reach out for my work. My work might not be the right fit for you and that’s ok.
My work that includes cultural stories or inspired by my cultural heritage is always done with guidance from my Elders and my lived experience.
Art takes time: Depending on how large the project I require at minimum one month lead up time. For larger projects more time will be required.
Leading up to Reconciliation week, NAIDOC week or any major First Peoples events. Please allow enough time for the works to be made without being rushed. Also please note that I may get a number of requests during this time. I will not take on any work requests at short notice unless heavily compensated. Best to plan a head for these events.
I am not a graphic designer.
Due to my Anxiety any public speaking events or interviews will require good planning and low stress. Interviews with questions sent to me prior will also help with this.
All work commissioned for my connection to cultural heritage, for example works for RAPS.
Is done in constant consultation with my Elders. Sometimes this may mean there is a community fee to go back in to helping build future artist in community. This is something I am passionate about.Do not request “Aboriginal art“, “traditional art” or “dot art” as this is inappropriate for a number of reasons. I am from the South East People and dots art is not apart of my culture. I also what is “Aboriginal Art“? Please remember we a country made up of many countries that have their own culture and art.
Artist fee resource https://visualarts.net.au. Note: art that is connected to my cultural knowledge will be at a higher rate so I can feed it back in to my community. And when appropriate (ie. public works) if there is budget I will have a mentee fee included so I can employ a young artist in on the project, so I can help build and bring up other emerging artists. This will be included as an extra fee. As it is very important that they get paid for their labour.
I do not do work or talks for free or for exposure.
Any requests for lists of artists that I work with or know, including First People Business will require a fee of $500. even then I may not provide you with this if I feel your project isn’t safe or suitable for those creatives.
Any last minute or rushed requests will be charged extra.
I will require a deposit and contract for works before we begin. Unless negotiated prior.
ARTIST FEES:
I prefer transparency and telling me what your budget is when you reach out.
My Artist fee will depend on the Project, time involved and material costs.
Things to note with my fees:
For major Public art projects will need an extra fee for a mentee to assist on projects to continue and build future First People artists. This is extremely important to my practice and giving back to my community.
My artist fee is also based on my time, skill, education, career level, the increased demand for my work and the cultural commodity that is attached to my work that brings extra value.
